It is before that man goes to school because of money but now it is another story entirely. Anyone with such mindset may end up hating schooling. Graduates are no more rich by their certificate or have daily bread with it. History has produced many rich men without certificate, footballers that are well known without reading beyond secondary school.
The reason is obvious, in the 80's the rate of enrolment into schools is very low compared to what we operate on now. In fact, a mere secondary school graduate is sure of a white collar job then. Anyone with NCE then is a 'leper' among the blinds but now teachers with Master are still wandering around the community for any sustainable job, if there is any. The alarming change in education is a key factor.
Also, the competition in the labour market is so high that everyone is prepared for the struggle. If you are not in the list of first class or second class is a problem. And that is why some students cut corners in all ways just to have high grade. In fact, in some firm, if you have first class you won't be picked with the fear that you will be under paid - irony of life. However, I have seen some set of students cutting corners just to have CGPA required for posts in SUG.
So, when the discussion ensued I do maintain my ground that schooling never ascertain wealth anymore. It will only expose you to reality of life. You will be able to know your right but can be disenfranchised, your obligation as a citizen but you may act otherwise, you will know happenings around you but still live under the cage of super natural people, etc.
However, because schooling does not assures you of a wealthy life is not an excuse to abscond school. Life has been tailed around education that is why you see old rich men going back to school for certificate. Any attempt to stop schooling at secondary school maybe dangerous in the future than you think, ask old men around you. Ours is to strive, God is to reward the effort.
