Why Is It Important For A Woman To Be Financially Independent

Can't emphasises the importance of a woman having her own money enough, even if your husband is ok with fully taking care of you, still have something you can fall back on.

It's empowering, self fulfilling, it brings independence, multiple streams of income won't hurt the household, you're less of a liability, if your guy falls on bad times you can step in and help, being entirely reliant on your guy can open doors for misbehaviour.

It is good for a woman to be financially independent in/before marriage to reduce the financial burden of running a home/wedding on the man. Knowing the economic situation in Nigeria, even if a woman can't get a monthly paid job, it is important that she learns a skill(become an entrepreneur) to add to what her husband brings to the table. Unless the hubby is very wealthy and ask her not to work, pays her equivalent of her earnings if she worked.

There was a recent story of one peanut head Nigerian man, who destroyed a business he helped his wife build because he felt she was becoming "too proud" when you have your own, if things go wrong you will have more options

So you can walk away from the man, if any bullshit, (i.e abuse of any kind) starts from him(before marriage) or anyone at all. e.g in-laws(After marriage, Although this had more to do with you having the mindset to walk away than having cash, because some rich women are abused or mistreated and still stay even though they have the money necessary to walk away.)

Since it is money that controls Nigeria, having your own money will help take your kids with you when you walk ( in the event that there are kids and you would like to walk away after marriage).

However, it is even better to be resourceful or to master the act of being resourceful, than to be financially independent, because money remains a visitor.

Also, pursuit of financial independence shouldn't be for the purpose to subjugate one's better half, or as a leverage to establish contention in the union.

Money will always remain a means to an end but never an end itself.
It never defines a sane person.
